Scrap Attack Event

NEWQUAY ZOO IS SPONSORING
SCRAP ATTACK
Schools and community Rubbish Awareness Project Cornwall's own Environmental Competition.

SCRAP Attack is now in it's 7th year and is a great way to teach children about the many different issues that are currently affecting the environment.

The aim of SCRAP Attack is to educate children about the issues of litter and to take pride of their local environment. School children are encouraged to think about the wider issues of protecting the environment and topics such as waste management and climate change.

SCRAP attack continues to be very popular with local school children who undertake a litter-pick within their local community, whether on the beach or in a park or within the school grounds.

Zoo wins green gold

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is a Europe-wide initiative
recognising accommodation providers and visitor attractions that are taking action to support both the local area and the wider environment.

Newquay Zoo Marketing Manager Michelle Turton said: "We are very proud - Newquay Zoo is the first attraction in Cornwall to get gold."

Newquay Zoo also has the ISO 14001 international environmental accreditation.

Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) award winners have to demonstrate that they are taking action in a wide range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, support for local suppliers, ethical products and contributing to wildlife and the environment.

Winners are evaluated by independent qualified assessors who visit businesses,  examine records and talk to staff. They assess the extent of the business' effort.

These assessment visits provide businesses with helpful advice as to where they can continue improving.
