NEWQUAY ZOO ACCESS STATEMENT

Newquay Zoo Environmental Park is a leading family visitor attraction in Cornwall. We are committed to and are proactive in the field of Access for All. We believe that by creating an environment free from barriers and obstacles, we can ensure our facilities, services and the environment are fully accessible to all. We want everyone to enjoy the Zoo and endeavour to make everything accessible, visible and easy for you.

Mobility Access

Please note. Newquay Zoo does not have any wheelchairs for hire. However, Newquay Tourist Information Centre has wheelchairs and electric scooters from just £5 per day. Please contact Newquay Tourist Information Centre on 01637 854020 for more information and to book.

The Zoo is based in a 10 acre natural Environmental Park and is around 80% wheelchair and pushchair friendly. The terrain is mainly level and a majority of the paths are tarmac with a concrete floor in the village farm. Please note there are doors to our Tropical House which have to be kept closed due to free flying birds. Both doors do open though to give enough room for wheelchair users.

Areas which currently do not have ramps or access for wheelchair uses are:

  • The Hospital does not have a ramped entrance at present.
  • The upstairs viewing gallery in the Tropical House is not accessible to wheelchair users but 80% of the animals can be viewed from ground level.
  • The Owl enclosures are not accessible by wheelchairs due to a large railway sleeper staircase which has been put in place due to the steep incline.
  • The Oriental Garden has been refurbished and now includes a wheelchair viewing platform so you can see across the Otter enclosure and into the new Hornbill Aviary.

There is plenty of seating throughout the zoo.

Parking
There are disabled spaces close to the main entrance. Please note it is a council owned car park.

Assistance Dogs
Registered Disability Support Dogs, Registered Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, Registered Guide Dogs for the Blind, Registered Disability Assistance Dogs, Registered Medical Assistance Dogs and Registered Seizure Alert Dogs are welcome when accompanied by and under the control of their owners.

To ensure the safety and welfare of the public, staff and animals on the premises the Support Dogs must wear their respective Identifying Jackets and their Environmental Health and Identification Cards must be carried and shown if required.

The wearing of Identifying Jackets and the carrying of the Environmental Health and Identification Cards form part of the regulations for all Registered and Trained Support Dogs in the United Kingdom. If you have any queries regarding this policy please contact Assistance Dogs (UK).
