AFRICA and the PHILIPPINES come to Newquay Zoo 2009

Award winning and set amongst exotic lakeside gardens, Newquay Zoo is home to hundreds of animals from all around the world.

New for 2009 is a wonderful AFRICAN SAVANNA exhibit with three acres of grassland including stunning Wildebeest, entertaining Ostriches, fun tusky Warthogs, beautiful and elegant Zebra, Waterbuck and Nyala Antelope.

This is a major development for the zoo and a fantastic opportunity to introduce a wide range of new species as well as move our zebra and antelope into a bigger mixed species enclosure.

The new housing for the animals will be a fully insulated wooden building and will incorporate 13 state of the art stalls and a food preparation area.

Public viewing will be from a raised board-walk and provide some covered areas and information points.

Another new exhibit highlights some unusual Philippine species. The Visayan Warty Pig, Fishing Cat and Philippine Spotted Deer are all under threat and will become another important part of the breeding programmes at the Zoo. These species will be housed in the current African Plains exhibit which will be redeveloped in the new year. New stabling will be built for the Spotted Deer and Warty Pigs with a separate enclosure built for the Fishing Cats, with landscaping and tree planting to provide shade and enhance the new exhibit.

Regular updates will be posted on this page keeping you up to date with the progress.
