NEW! Available from May 2011
Find out how World War 2 affected the life of zoo keepers, their animals, families and visitors. From ‘Dig for Victory’ to ARP (Air Raid Precautions) and rationing, our educational workshops with original objects and resource materials are good for illustrating the challenges of life on the Home Front in World War 2.
A free family / schools activity trail illustrating wartime life in zoos is in place around Newquay Zoo, whilst our wartime ‘dig for victory’ allotment garden runs throughout the year on the Lion House Lawn.
45 minute workshop £15 – longer workshop versions are available, linked to the Primary History National Curriculum ‘Family Life on the Home Front’ related units. We can also cover how wartime life affected zoos and the people in the First World War.
We are preparing a version of this workshop available to bring out to Cornish schools - see also our offsite talk rates.
Schools publications should be available by 2012.
