Zoo Cadets

If you love animals and want to learn more about them or work with them one day, then start your journey as a member of the Zoo Cadets at Newquay Zoo!

Please note that Zoo Cadets is now full and cannot accept any more children during 2013.

If you are aged 12-16 years old and interested in the Zoo, animals and conservation then the Zoo Cadets is for you. Meeting on the first Saturday of every month between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm, the Zoo Cadets will have the opportunity to learn many fantastic zoo keeping skills and be involved in all sorts of interesting activities.

What will I do as a Zoo Cadet?

Cadets will be involved in loads of great activities around the Zoo - including feeding and cleaning out the animals, designing an enclosure, performing animal health checks and making enrichment toys. Be prepared to get involved and get mucky, as just like a keeper, you could be out in all weathers!

If you are dreaming of becoming a keeper one day then the Zoo Cadets is the perfect opportunity to gain some great skills.

How much?

Annual membership to the Zoo Cadets costs £22.50, payable from the start of the Cadet year in May.

What will you receive?

As well as taking part in a range of interesting activities, Zoo Cadets members will also receive:

  • A club badge and Zoo passport to allow free entry to the Zoo for each meeting
  • A subscription to Zoo News magazine
  • A portfolio of all your experiences
  • Access to career advice and information on relevant college courses from our friendly team
  • Brilliant memories, fantastic friends and a chance to get closer to the animals at the Zoo

For more information please telephone the Cadet Leader on 0844 474 2244 or email us

Please note: Zoo Cadets is extremely popular and there are a limited number of spaces available. Cadets joining halfway through the year will be required to pay the full membership fee.

Lovely to see such a well supported zoo. Great to read all about the conservation projects, so you know the entry fee supports such worthwhile things.
