FEBRUARY

Panda Cake Day 3rd February. A different spin on the traditional Pancake Day celebrations. This time why not visit the zoo and see how to make  ‘Panda Cake' (a special food for the Red Panda)? Talk and workshop at 2pm.

Chinese New Year. The 7th February is the start of the ‘Year of the Rat'. This launches our GNAW long weekend from the 7th to 10th highlighting rodents like porcupines and Capybara with talks, mask making and quiz sheets. The GNAW Trail will run from the 7th to the 29th February.

The Zoo Mini Film Festival 9th to 17th February. Special behind the scenes film footage will be shown twice a day at 11:30am and 3pm. Featuring the keepers at work, some of their trials and tribulations and never seen before footage .

Hopportunity! 29th February. Leap to the Rescue! This is the launch of Newquay Zoo's awareness and fundraising for the EAZA Amphibian Campaign 2008. With talks, encounters, a display in the Tropical House and exclusive Newquay Zoo badges at only £1 each to get the fundraising started. For the latest details please click here

Mother's Day 2nd March. Bring your mum for a special day out and if she is one of the first 20 mums to enter the zoo she will get a special posy to celebrate Mother's Day. SPECIAL OFFER  Mother's Day Adoption only £25. Give your mum an animal adoption as a present and save £5 off the normal price of £30. Please call for more details.

Fair Trade Fortnight 1st & 2nd plus the 8th and 9th. Ideal for all ages, two weekends celebrating our commitment to sustainability with Fair Trade and Cornish produce including cider and cheese tastings and local crafts.

The Pesky Piskie Trail' will be running from the 1st March to the 30th April. Discover more about our native wildlife and local myths and legends, tales of Cornish inventers and explorers, tricksy piskeys and follow our trail to explore about our Cornish National Piskey Reserve based around the Cornish Dragon maze area of the zoo. Learn about Cousin Jacks - how the Cornish spread overseas to the mines of South America, Africa and Australia, and how the zoo now works overseas.  This is part of National Science and Engineering Week (7th to 16th March).

St Piran's Day 5th March. There is plenty of fun to be had with our ‘Fling the pasty competition' from 1pm. We are making some bean-bag pasties which we can use to ‘Fling the pasty'. We plan to have a child and adult competition with the winners receiving a box of pasties. The flinging will take place on the pathway besides our Cornish Dragon Maze.

Members' Weekend 8th and 9th March. Special Members only event with cream teas and animal encounters during the Fair Trade weekend. Call for more details.

Easter Fete 23rd and 24th March. Egg and spoon race, Wild Times Art Club, Lion and Bunny Race, plastic duck races, meet the minibeasts, animal encounters, games and tuck shop.

Green Finger Week 4th to 10th May. Find out how to be green during Compost Awareness Week.

Newquay Zoo Community Weekend
We invite you, the local residents of Cornwall to join us on Saturday 10th or Sunday 11th May for just £5 per person on production of suitable ID (eg:utility bill, driving licence).

Enjoy (plastic) frog and duck racing at 12:15pm and 2:15pm supporting the ‘Year of the Frog'. Hop on our Bouncy Castle, plus stalls, talks and more.

Find out about our native wildlife and pop into a special keeper chat and behind the scenes film show at 1pm and 3pm.

A fun weekend for all the family.


Spy Night ‘Licenced to Conserve' 28th May.

Celebrate the Ian Fleming centenary with our Spy School, a fun evening event with bush craft, survival skills and suit-able fancy dress.

Your mission: to help James Pond save the world's amphibians.
This is a ticket only event and booking is essential. Adults are £9.95 each and children are £7.95 each. The evening will start at 7pm and run through to 9:30pm.

THE WILD BREAKFAST 26th July 5am to 8:30am. Help prepare breakfast for some the animals. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to join the keepers on their first food round of the day. MADAGASCAN NIGHTS
 

Looking for somewhere to take the children? Join us every Wednesday in August as the zoo stay open late with special animal encounters, talks and games based around our Madagascan animals. Enjoy an evening barbecue plus other tasty food selections in the relaxing sub-tropical lakeside gardens. ( Normal entry prices apply - Please note that food is not included in the entry price).


Lots to do and see with fun for all the family with new animals for 2008 including Emperor Tamarins, Capuchin Monkeys new baby penguins and very cute Breton sheep, the world's smallest sheep plus lots more.

Last entry 7:30pm and the zoo closes at 8:30pm. Open late on the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August.

Extra talks include:
5pm: Talk about our Asian Short-clawed otters who live in the Oriental Garden.
6pm: Find out more from our staff about the amazing Fossa and the unusual looking Vasa Parrot from Madagascar and look to see who is awake in the Lion and Lynx Houses.
6:45pm Madagascan Mini Tour plus animal encounter.
A talk about our Black and White Ruffed Lemurs and Ring-tailed Lemurs plus meet Kevin the Madagascan Hissing Cockroach and a Madagascan Radiated Tortoise. Meet one of our lovely frogs and find out about the EAZA Year of the Frog campaign.
7:30pm Last entry to the zoo.
7:45pm: There will be a scatter feed in the Tropical House which is home to a variety of exotic animals including sloths, toucans, pygmy marmosets and reptiles from Madagascar.
Don't miss the minibeasts room, home to beautiful poison dart frogs and another chance to meet one of our toads and help protect the world's amphibians as part of the EAZA Year of the Frog.
8:30 Zoo closes.

The Big Draw October (Dates to be confirmed - please check our website nearer the time) Bring the family and get creative at our fun drawing workshops with painting and collage materials available.

Halloween ‘Shriek Week' Trails 25th to 31st October. Craft making and story telling at noon.

Halloween ZOO BOO Party. 31st October. Prepare to be scared on this night of ghouls, mummies and skeletons. Keep your eyes peeled as you explore the zoo in the dark. Take on challenges to earn points to win a prize! Best dressed competitions and a tasty barbecue is included in the price.   From 6:30pm to 10pm. Tickets are £14.95 per adult and £9.95 per child.
