Pantomime Animal Trail - 1st December 2009 - 12th February 2010
Help! One of our panto characters is missing!
Follow our trail of 10 pantomime animal trail boards around the zoo to track down clues to discover the name of a missing Pantomime character! Learn more about the wonderful world of Panto, its magical animals, familiar stories and unusual facts in our family friendly discovery trail.
Fascinating Filipinas / Philippines trail 13th February to 1st April
Home to some of the world's rarest animals such as Warty Pigs, Spotted Deer and weird looking birds like the Bleeding Heart Dove, explore the fascinating Philippines in our family activity trail around Newquay Zoo. Discover more about the animals, plants and everyday items (unusual recipes, dances and strange customs, history, postage stamps) from one of our overseas conservation project areas.
European Carnivore Week 14th February to 20th February
Come and join Newquay Zoo for European Carnivore Week, supporting the EAZA European Carnivore Campaign. Featuring fascinating talks on the Zoo's Carpathian Lynx and Bird of Prey displays by Countryside Hawking on 14th, 15th and 17th. Other children's activities include carnivore animal mask making and bird of prey kite making - making a kite from re-used plastic bags!
St Piran's Day 5th March
Join us for our annual ‘Cornish pasty flinging' competition at 1pm with prizes for the furthest throw.
Members' Weekend 27-28th March
Exclusive opportunity for zoo members to meet zoo staff and find out more about what's new for 2010 at Newquay Zoo.
Mad Hatter's Easter Extravaganza weekend 4th - 5th April
Come down to Newquay Zoo for an Easter egg-citing weekend featuring Alice in Wonderland Characters, Maddest Hat Competition, children's crafts and activities, Easter Egg Croquet, fundraising games and prizes, animal Easter enrichment feeds, and plastic duck racing. Also look out for Cheshire Cats in trees and other Alice characters on our White Rabbit Trail (2nd - 18th April) around the Zoo.

World War Zoo weekend, 1st - 3rd May 2010
Discover more about what happened to zoos and gardens during the difficult years of World War Two. Visit our wartime ‘Dig for Victory' garden, meet our wartime garden staff and explore our 'touch time table' display of fascinating objects from wartime life and the 1940s.
Follow in the footsteps of legendary plant hunter Edwardiana Jones (and his sister Victoriana) as you uncover real-life stories of daring adventure in search of ... plants! Learn about Cornish explorers, wartime secret agents, and the extraordinary stories behind the exotic plants in our gardens on our family-friendly activity trail.
You'll want to go home and ‘grow your own' wildlife garden afterwards - to encourage you to do so, we've set up a 'potting tent' where you can use old newspaper, clever pot makers and free seeds to take home your own recycled plant pot and grow your own plants including sunflowers!

Have a Monster half term with the Mega Mini-Beasts Week at Newquay Zoo. 30th May – 6th June
This half term Newquay Zoo is holding a Mega Mini-Beasts week. Exploring the seemingly alien world of insects and other invertebrates, Newquay Zoo will be running workshops and activities for children and adults; taking a magnified look at these strange looking animals and the important roles they play in our ecosystems.
Find out more about some of the giant invertebrates that are kept at the Zoo at the special mini-beast talks and take part in a bug hunt on one of the Mini-Beast Safari’s running at 1pm and 2:45pm.
Meet Assassin Bugs, Hissing Cockroaches, Emperor Scorpions, African Train Millipedes and more in the Tropical House and build your own Bug House to take home with you.
Newquay Zoo’s Mega Mini-Beast week will be running from the 30th May to the 6th June. Registering for the Mini-Beast Safari’s on the day is advisable and will be charged at £2.50 per child.
Father's Day & Teddy Bear's Picnic 20th June
If you go down to the Zoo today you're sure of a big surprise.....
Come down to Newquay Zoo this Father's Day for a special Teddy Bear's Picnic treat.
Half price admission for Dad's and FREE admission for children who bring a bear.
Take part in our Teddy Bear Trail for the opportunity to win a Red Panda Adoption.
There will also be other children's crafts and activities to take part in as well as lots of fund-raising games and competitions. And if your bear is feeling a little under the weather you can take them to see Nurse Penny Sillen at our very own Bear Hospital!
Also meet Ziggy The Zebra who will be making some special appearances during the day.

Mega Mini-Beast Week
17th – 23rd July
Explore the alien world of insects and other invertebrates during our Summer Mega-Mini Beast Week.
Learn how to create your own ‘Bug-House’ in our workshop sessions and take a magnified look at these strange creatures and the important roles they play in our eco-system.
Wild Breakfast

TICKET ONLY EVENT
The first of three Wild Breakfast events this summer. An atmospheric dawn tour of the Zoo with the keeper as the animals wake for the day!
Prepare animal enrichment treats and tuck into a delicious cooked breakfast at Café Lemur. Tickets a £14.95 for adults and £9.95 for children. Price includes all day admission to the Zoo.
Beaks, Wings and Things! 24th – 30th July
Fly by Newquay Zoo for this special week dedicated to our feathery friends. Drop into our animal enrichment session and make food plaits and fruit kebabs for our parrots and help prepare ice treats for our penguins! Countryside Hawking will also be visiting the Zoo on Monday 26th to give talks and displays of some of Europe’s most impressive Birds of Prey.

Endangered Species Week
31st July – 6th August
Newquay Zoo is home to some of the most rare and endangered species on the planet, from Black Macaques to Warty Pigs and many more. Come and find out more about our overseas conservation projects and how you can get involved. Take our activity trail and design your perfect habitat in our Conservation Workshop.
Jaws, Paws and Claws!
7th – 13th August
From Lions and Pythons to Meerkats and Otters - come and find out more about some of our most skilful predators and the advantageous abilities they have in the animal kingdom. Compare your hands to the size of a Lion's paw or help create food devices for our Otters and Meerkats in our children’s workshop. Enter the competition to help our Carnivore Keeper on Friday 13th and put our paper-mache prey in the Lion enclosure!

Primate Investigators
14th – 20th August
Join our keepers and education staff for plenty of monkey business during this week dedicated to Newquay Zoo’s primate species. From our smallest monkey the Pygmy Marmoset to our bouncing Lemurs you’ll discover how much we have in common with some of our closest cousins. Take part in our Animal Habits Workshop and learn how to talk like a Black Macaque!

Venture into the jungle depths of our Tropical House and discover an interesting world of skin, scales and movement! A week glimpsing into the lives of reptiles and amphibians and how they survive in the wild! Act like a frog and take part in our Space Hopper Challenge!
Plant Hunters Week
28th August – 3rd September
Take the Plant Hunters Trail and follow in the footsteps of the old Cornish explorers. Take a trip to our ‘Grow your own’ potting tent and see how you can grow your own plants and vegetables at home. You can also pot some seeds and take them home with you using our recycled and bio-degradable plant potters!

Pirate Day
19th September
Shiver me timbers . . . get down to Newquay Zoo on the 19th September 2010.
Explore the Zoo following in the footsteps of rascally pirates in search of natural treasures and booty.
PLUS talk like a pirate and claim your FREE parrot logo bug. When you enter the Zoo you will be given a special pirate phrases information sheet which will explain how you can claim your free logo bug during the fascinating talks at feed times throughout the day.
If you are feeling creative there will also be pirate mask making and face painting available (extra charge applies).
