2016 is the year of Amazing Asia
Published: Feb 8, 2016This year at Newquay Zoo we are celebrating Amazing Asia...
We have a wide selection of Asian animals, insects and birds here at the zoo and later this year we will be revealing our new exhibit, Gems of the Jungle. This exciting new walk-through will house an array of song birds from Indonesia, Thailand and China and will be the only one of its kind in Cornwall.
Songbird-keeping as a pastime is firmly entrenched in local culture and tradition in many regions however unfortunately the capture of birds for the songbird trade is recognised as the single largest threat for many species.
We hope our Gems of the Jungle exhibit will help to highlight the songbird crisis and give our visitors a unique close encounter experience with these precious birds.
To celebrate the launch of this exhibit our events schedule throughout the year will be focused on Asian themed activities and talks, and at February half term we will be launching our Amazing Asia activity book and will be hosting Peacock art sessions, a special red panda talk, Origami workshops and face-painting.
All throughout the year visitors can also get up close to an array of our Asian residents including our red panda parents and their baby, our pair of endangered civets, our short-clawed otters and the fishing cats.
The zoo is open every day from 10.00am until 4.30pm.
