Bill is visiting as part of a nationwide tour, sponsored by Haiths Bird Food, and Bills' own Bird Food and the Zoo is especially thrilled to host such an avid bird-lover. Zoo Director, Stewart Muir said,
‘Bill Oddie is our ideal guest - we are particularly proud of our bird breeding and conservation projects, with one of the best bird collections in the country. I am really looking forward to showing Bill around behind-the-scenes, and we hope plenty of people will come along to welcome Bill to Newquay and support the Zoo’
Bill Oddie was the star of one of the biggest comedy hits of the 70s - the Goodies. He has been called 'Britain's best-known birdwatcher’, and was the UK's favourite wildlife presenter regularly fronting Springwatch and Autumnwatch which had a daily audience of over 4 million viewers. Witty, candid and unconventional, Bill has been a stalwart of British life across multiple generations.
Haiths is a wild bird food specialist and they've been providing high-quality, superclean wild bird diets to enthusiasts since 1937. Bill Oddie originally teamed up with Haiths in 2003 to promote their brand, and then worked with them to develop his own wild bird food in 2004, celebrating a 10 year partnership this year.
The Love Your Zoo campaign was launched in 2011 by BIAZA, its aim is to encourage people to visit their local BIAZA zoos and aquariums and to not only have a great day out, but also learn just how much they do for conservation, education and research. Zoos, aquariums and wildlife centres across the UK will be taking part again this year and will be putting on a week of fun activities for vistors and their families.
