One of the region’s top conservation charities is looking for new people to help guide it through the coming years.

The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust is beginning a search for two new trustees.

The Trust runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall, owns nature reserves and operates conservation projects both at home and overseas.

Executive Director Simon Tonge said: “After the sad death of our chairman, Dr. David Stradling, last year, we are keen to add to our Board of Trustees. Currently we have 10 trustees but the charity’s constitution allows for up to 12.”

The Trust would like to strengthen the representation of two key areas on the board. It is looking for someone with biology or life science experience and someone with legal training.

Simon Tonge added: “We are lucky enough to have some significant local names on our Board. David Stradling was a noted entomologist. The current skills mix includes estate management and agriculture, business development, retail and leisure, education, accountancy and the legal profession. We have academics with natural history specialisms and the television filmmaker Andrew Cooper.”

The Trust hopes to make the new appointments within the next few months. The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust is a registered charity. For more information click here or ring 01637 873342.
