Film production company FPP New Media have chosen Newquay Zoo as a setting for their latest TV adaptation.

Footage for the programme - which will be screened on German state TV - was filmed on Monday 3rd and Wednesday 5th September, and the African Savanna exhibit, the Tropical House and the penguin pool are all expected to feature heavily.

'Snakes in Paradise' is based on a love story between two veterinary workers, adapted from a novel by Cornish novelist Rosamunde Pilcher. Cornwall features a lot in her novels and in the successful adaptations of her book for German TV. Hundreds of German tourists fly into Newquay every year to see for themselves the dramatic coastline and picturesque villages which feature in the popular dramas, which have been shown in Germany for the past nine years.

Zoo Director Stewart Muir said; ''We are very excited about the drama being filmed at the Zoo. These programmes are incredibly in Germany, so it is only natural that people will come to the Zoo as it is a location in the drama. It is very good for Cornish tourismin general.''

Producer Elvira Bolz said; ''We would like to thank Newquay Zoo for letting us to film there. Red pandas are definately a feature of the film as they are so rare.''
