When Newquay Zoo was approached earlier this year to host a unique wedding, Events Manager Lorraine Reid jumped at the chance.

And the chance to have it all filmed for national television was the icing on the cake for the hard working events team.

‘Marrying Mum and Dad’ is a brand new television series that starts on Monday 13th August on CBBC. The series allows children to organise an entire wedding for their parents, from buying the dress to choosing a location and picking the cake. A couple from mid-Cornwall agreed to take part in the show, and their two sons chose a jungle theme for their special day, and begged the Zoo to help them host an amazing day for their parents.

Lorraine said; ‘‘The wedding took place in April this year, and it was really brilliant fun. The whole family were really lovely and got into the spirit of a zoo wedding, which is what the boys wanted. With their brief in mind we organised some brilliant activities to take place during the tight filming schedule, which allowed guests to be thoroughly entertained and mum and dad to really relax and enjoy themselves.’’

‘‘Guests were able to help to scatter feed the meerkats, the bride and groom got closer to our family of lemurs on their island, and a bushtucker trial event really tested everyone’s tastebuds! The Café Lemur provided some really tasty treats for the wedding party, and we had some wonderful feedback from guests and the team from CBBC, who all enjoyed their day at Newquay Zoo. We are really excited to see the show, especially our episode which goes out on Friday.’’

The jungle themed wedding episode which was hosted by Newquay Zoo will broadcast at 9.30am on Friday 17th August on the CBBC channel. To a view a preview of the series, and see some footage of our lovely lion click here.
