Senior Lower Vertibrates & Invertebrates Keeper
What is the best part of your job?
Probably when we have success with breeding or rearing new animals, especially when it’s a new species that we haven’t worked with before or haven’t had success with before.
What is your favourite animal?
It does change, but at the moment it’s probably the fijjian iguanas that we have upstairs in the tropical house - they are particularly special.
If you could be any zoo animal what would you be?
Ah, probably the sloth for the obvious reason of how lazy it is, and the fact it gets to sleep most of the day.
Why did you become a zookeeper?
That is a good question. In all honestly it was the desire to work with animals, and this particular job gave me the freedom to work with the types of animals that I wanted to work with.
Do you have any interesting pets?
Umm, fairly, we’ve got tortoises, parrots. I have had a wallaby in the past!
What is the most dangerous animal on your section and why?
The vine snakes? There are different animals that are dangerous for different reasons.
How did you become a zookeeper?
I got offered the job and it gave me the opportunity to do something I really wanted to do - breed rare and unusual animals.
