Mission Statement

Newquay Zoo is an education, scientific and conservation charity dedicated to protecting our global wildlife heritage and inspiring in people a respect for animals, plants and the environment.

Aim of volunteering role:

Enhance our visitors’ visit and to help raise funds for Zoo initiatives, national and global animal and plant conservation projects. Volunteers generate funds by operating the kiosk adjacent to the Village Farm / Tropical House.

The objective of the volunteer role is to:

Maintain attractive displays of prizes and availability of raffle tickets for purchase. Provide a welcoming face to the visiting public and maximise sales of tickets. Maintain accurate records of stocks used and monies taken. Interact with visitors, other volunteers and Zoo staff as necessary.

Tasks:

Merchandising, cash handling, cashing up, Keep account of stock and supplies, Stocktaking, Answer visitors questions i.e. where are the lions?

Time:

Weekdays February – Oct, Weekends all year round. Most volunteers offer a day per week and generally start at around 10:30am and finish around 3:00pm during the winter, and 4:00pm in the summer months.

Place of duty:

The Animal Crackers Hut is located in the centre of the Zoo adjacent to the Village Farm / Tropical House.

Skills required:

Good customer service, Interest in and ability to volunteer with people from all walks of life, A sense of humour, flexibility and a team player, Must be reliable, A smile!

Materials required:

You need to wear comfortable shoes. A volunteer polo shirt and sweatshirt is provided for a small deposit as part of your induction.

Any health and safety requirements: Seating is provided but you may be on your feet for long periods. There is a little physical work involved. Please note that all volunteers for this role must be aged 18 years or over
